Four Traditions for a Perfect Halloween

Halloween is one of our absolute most favorite time of the year. With the changing of the seasons and so many fun things to do, its an easy time to have fun with the whole family. Its the perfect occasion to celebrate or even create brand new traditions.  We're participating in HERSHEY'S® BOO BLVDTM and want to share the four family traditions that make our Halloween so special with you.  Its brought so much fun and laughter to our family, I hope it will bring you and your family big smiles too!

Making Halloween Crafts

Every year we get together and pick Halloween themed crafts to do.  The crafts don't have to be complicated or expensive to make. Just try brainstorming some frugal ideas with things you have on hand such as paper towel rolls and empty tissue boxes or scrap paper. You'll have a great time spending time and creating special moments.

This year we've already made this Yummy Mummy Tree using a branch that we spray painted black.  We secured the branch by poking a whole through an empty portable fruit cup.  Then, we filled the base with rocks and added a layer of tape the bottom.  Our "mummies" are made with KIT KAT candy and wrapped with strips of paper towel. I printed our spooky eyes and taped them to the candy. Finally, we taped them onto our tree branch. It came out great, was really affordable and most of all we had a blast making it together as a family.

We've also made skeletons out of cotton swabs and puffs this year, they are so cute and taking advantage of things we have on hand. Lastly, its a must that we carve pumpkins every year! It just wouldn't be Halloween without letting your creativity shine and getting your hands all goopy with pumpkin! Don't forget to bake up the yummy seeds!

Creating Halloween Treats

Every year is marked by some fun new treats that my son and I make together.  Spending time in the kitchen together has always been such a great way to bond for us. Its also a wonderful way teach him the basics of cooking and a great way to explore his creativity.  He is so proud when he is able to tell friends and family what we've made and that is priceless and a great esteem booster. It just wouldn't be Halloween if we didn't create lots of pumpkin and candy themed treats! This year we incorporated the best of both with our Frozen Pumpkin Spice Candy Cheesecake. We used KIT KAT candy and HERSHEY'S KISSES in Pumpkin Spice flavor.

Also be sure to plan some time to create great recipes for the candy your kids get while trick or treating! You will have a blast!

Get Dressed Up

It just wouldn't be Halloween without getting all dressed up! Every year we all participate in costume picking festivities as a family!   One of the most important things to do is to pick a costume every year.  My son starts getting excited as early as September, so we have plenty of time to consider all of the fun options.   You can create your own costumes, even if you aren't crafty.  One year, my son wore my dance recital costume from when I was a girl, it was one of the best ideas ever.  We've also made our own face paint at home. Give yourself plenty of time to brainstorm and make a master plan.

Decorate Your Home

Nothing builds up excitement like adding festive decorations in and outside of your home. When my husband was growing up, every year his parents would get he and his brothers construction paper, crayons and supplies and they would all sit down together and make fun Halloween crafts. Those same crafts would be hung around the house as their decorations for that year.

Whether they are homemade or store bought, decking your home with the spookiest of decor can be a wonderful family activity.  We've come up with some fun and spooky ideas over the years. One of my favorites are the pumpkin headed- hay spiders we made!  Make sure to take lots of pictures to treasure your creations for years to come.

What are some of your favorite Halloween traditions?
