Are you ready to make your own super rich Lindt hot chocolate this Easter.

BUNNY HOT CHOCOLATE MELTS

Are you wondering how to make Easter hot cocoa melts or melting bunny hot chocolate? You have come to the right place. This fun idea is for all of my friends who are terrified of melting chocolate. I totally got you.

This hot cocoa hack is epic because it uses Lindt Gold Bunnies which make the flavor of the hot chocolate absolutely amazing. Another perk? You don't need a chocolate mold to make these. No mold needed.

BUNNY HOT COCOA INGREDIENTS

Once you melt those bunnies open, what you put inside is totally up to you. But, here is what I used for these.

Now that you have your ingredients, it's time to melt those adorable bunny ears off so we can fill these hollow chocolate bunnies with yummy goodness.

HOW TO CUT THROUGH HOLLOW EASTER BUNNY

When trying to figure out the best way to remove chocolate bunny ears, I immediately ruled out cutting through them. Most kitchen knives unless uber sharp will not guarantee a clean cut. I found that using a hot knife and essentially melting through the hollow chocolate was the best method. It will take a little bit of patience, but I feel that it's worth it. Basically I used a heated knife and instead of forcing a cut through the chocolate, I patiently pressed and melted through it instead. It will only take a few minutes, but certainly longer than attempting to chop through.

Now you are probably wondering how to heat a knife. There are two fairly simple ideas that I have. One is to run under very hot water and then dry to use immediately. The other is, at your own risk, to use a lighter. You will have to reheat the knife several times in order to fully melt through the bunny.

Once you have clearly melted the bunny ears away, it's time to fill up the bunny with hot chocolate goodness, mini marshmallows and sprinkles all the way to the top.

Then, to seal up the bunny, use the same heated knife process or carefully at your own risk, use a lighter to gently warm the base of the ears and secure onto the bunny base immediately. Once the chocolate is set, you can add your choice of icing decoration to make this extra pretty for spring.

WHICH SIZE LINDT GOLD BUNNIES

Let me tell you, I now am the proud owner of *all the sizes" of these adorable Lindt Gold Bunnies. Oof. So, I wanted to make sure you know exactly which ones to purchase for this. You want the 1.7 ounce size. Often sold in this two pack that comes in an Easter basket style box. Don't be confused because the 2-pack states that it is 3.5 oz, but that is the COMBINED total size (and coincidently the exact size of the HUGE bunnies that you do not want for this).

This is the middle size and it fits perfectly inside of extra large mugs. There are currently THREE sizes on the market and only the middle sized one that I used will work perfectly for this recipe.

STORE BOUGHT UNICORN HOT CHOCOLATE

I used the Swiss Miss brand Unicorn Hot Cocoa Mix with Pastel Marshmallows. Note that the hot cocoa comes in one packet and the pastel marshmallows come in a separate package. If you are using a another hot cocoa mix, the marshmallows will most likely be in that same package and you will want to fill your bunny accordingly. If you can get your hands on pink hot cocoa, that might be awesome for this Easter hot chocolate treat, too.

Melting Bunny Hot Cocoa

Yield: 1
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Additional Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes

Melting Bunny Hot Cocoa Easter made with classic Lindt Gold Bunnies, store-bought unicorn hot cocoa mix and Easter sprinkles. Semi-homemade filler for Easter baskets.

Ingredients

  • 1 Lindt Gold Bunny, (1.7 oz)
  • 1 Packet Unicorn Hot Cocoa Mix with Pastel Marshmallows
  • 1 TSP Easter Sprinkles
  • 1 Small Icing Decorations like Ribbons or Mini Flowers
  • Dab of Chocolate Frosting or Melted Chocolate

Instructions

  1. Unwrap your chocolate bunny.
  2. Remove the bunny ears. Carefully using a warmed knife to gently press into the base of the ears of the bunny to slowly melt a hole through the entire bunny. You will need to reheat the knife several times to break through cleanly. See notes for tips.
  3. Once ears have been removed, pour hot cocoa mix into the bunny. Fill it about ⅔rs of the way. It will be a little more than half of the pack.
  4. Follow with a dash of sprinkles if desired.
  5. Add the pastel marshmallows from the hot cocoa mix set until you fill to the top.
  6. Use warmed knife to lightly melt the chocolate on the ears and reattach them. Let set for a few minutes for the chocolate to solidify.
  7. Use chocolate frosting or a tiny amount of melted chocolate to adhere the icing decorations around where the ears were reattached to help conceal that line and make the bunnies extra cute for Easter.

Notes

To heat your knife, run knife under very hot water and dry completely and use immediately. Repeat as needed. At your own risk, you can heat your knife with a lighter as well. Repeat as needed.

Just made the bunny cocoa bombs.. I found it easier to make a little hole in the bottom of the bunny. I added everything and then I melted chocolate over the hole. Did not have to unwrap. Just wanted to share.

GREAT IDEA!!! I was just about to start a batch of Royal Icing to make decorations to hide the slice. Your way is less homemade looking, but much faster!
