Opting for healthy protein packed meals can seem pretty boring at times. While I have my own favorites, eating the same thing day after day gets me feeling less than motivated to say the least. Since that is pretty much the opposite of what I'm going for, I'm always game for trying something new.
That's exactly what I did this week with a little inspiration from AllWhites Egg Whites. While egg whites are a regular on my menu, I've never considered adding them to a smoothie. Kind of brilliant if you ask me. Adding protein powders to smoothies can be pretty expensive, so this is a great budget friendly swap.
The original recipe calls for Carob powder can be found in the Natural or Health section of your grocery store. Carob doesn't contain chocolate, cocoa or caffeine. It's a fat free alternative for chocolate. One of my other favorite alternatives are Cacao powder as well. Feel free to swap your chocolate replacement with any of the three options: Carob, Cacao or Cocoa powder.
Carob, Peanut Butter & Banana Protein Smoothie
⅓ cup AllWhites® egg whites
1 Banana (small), cut into pieces
¼ Cup skim milk
1 Tbsp. Carob powder
2 Tbsp. reduced fat peanut butter
Combine all ingredients in blender. Cover and blend on medium speed until smooth. Serve immediately. Enjoy!
I was pleasantly surprised to find that this quick protein packed smoothie tastes more like a decadent dessert than a healthy option. Most importantly, I've found myself another tasty option for a quick meal or treat!
