Boston Cream Pie is one of those very elusive desserts. You see it on the menu and expect a nice slice of pie, but instead you get cake. No worries though. You will soon forget your moment of disappointment as soon as you take that first bite. Instead of pie, you will typically find a yellow cake filled with a layer or two of creamy pudding or custard topped with the perfect chocolate ganache, frosting or glaze of some kind. Today I'm sharing a 15 minute twist on this classic recipe for the perfect way to enjoy this old school treat for any occasion the easy way.
Not sure about you, but I love a good cake recipe that is actually no bake. How do you make that happen? This Boston Cream Pie with Cool Whip is so simple to make, it's practically mind blowing. This will be a new party hit in no time.
Being the hostess with the mostest has never been so easy than with this throwback dessert recipe that is originally from Kraft brand. I first made this many years ago through a partnership with the brand and it became a top hit here at Cutefetti. I'm excited to re-share this revamped idea with a fun new pretty garnish on top.
HOW TO MAKE BOSTON CREAM PIE EASY
This is so simple when you use a store-bought angel food cake as the base of your Boston Cream Pie. That's how we 're able to put this entire cake together in just 15 minutes. You simply cut the cake into three even layers to get started. Then we will fill with the simplest of pudding mix bases and make it extra creamy with the addition of extra whipped topping like Cool Whip.
Here are all of the ingredients we will use for this easy recipe:
- Prepared or Store-Bought Angel Food Cake
- Vanilla Flavor Instant Pudding
- Milk
- Whipped Topping like COOL WHIP
- BAKER'S Semi-Sweet Chocolate
You know I'm always looking for easy shortcuts and ideas to create awesomeness in as little time as possible. This, my friends is a serious winner! You don't have to be a baking pro to accomplish awesome cakes. Trust me, baking a cake that looks halfway decent, is not my strong suit. So, let me tell you how this yummy cake comes together in no time at all! I think you'll love me for it.
EASY CHOCOLATE GANACHE HACK
Ganache is such a fancy word, it seems unlikely that you could make it so easily! Connoisseurs may disagree, but I think this easy ganache recipe with only 2 ingredients is the perfect Boston Cream Pie topping. By microwaving or warming semi-sweet chocolate with whipped topping like COOL WHIP, you can get a perfectly creamy, light but well rounded chocolate ganache topping. It also cools quickly so that you don't have to wait long for it to set. Tastes wonderful chilled.
HOW TO GARNISH BOSTON CREAM PIE
Well, you absolutely cannot skip the chocolate topping on this classic creation, but there are ways for you to make it extra pretty. My idea is totally optional, but it really does make this cake so cheery and totally Instagramable if you ask me.
Simply add dollops of fresh whipped cream around the top of the cake and then place giant jumbo maraschino cherries on top of each cloud of cream. I adore how easily this simple addition took this cake to the next level.
HOW TO STORE BOSTON CREAM PIE
You might be asking should Boston Cream Pie be refrigerated? The answer is yes. This beautiful cake should be stored in the refrigerator for maximum goodness. The pudding is made with real milk and you don't want it to spoil. You should treat this cake just like you would regular pudding. It will also taste better chilled from your refrigerator. If you decide to add fresh whipped cream as a garnish, that will be yet another reason to store this cake in the fridge.
