Easter is just around the corner and there will be lots of candy pretty much everywhere! I thought it would be nice to chat about some Easter Basket fillers that were a little healthier today. Plus I have a really cute gift idea with a free printable topper to make giving a healthier treat a little more fun this year. Are you game?

Healthy Easter Basket Filler Ideas

What is the opposite of eating lots of candy and chocolate calories? You guessed it - burning calories! Giving toys that promote physical activity are wonderful to add to Easter baskets. One of my favorite ideas are jump ropes. They fit perfectly in the basket and they can provide lots of entertainment and healthy activity for your kids. Another added bonus is that they are inexpensive. If your child likes sports, any type of ball such as tennis, football or soccer are a great gift too. If outdoor family fun is something you are interested in, there are plenty of games that can be purchased. How about outdoor chalk? You can play hopscotch if you have a driveway. The possibilities are endless!

What about gifts that promote quality time?  We love board games,  check the game section of your local department store, they usually have an area dedicated to the smaller travel sized versions of games you know and love. Those will fit perfectly into your baskets. How about a family movie night in the making? You could purchase a family friendly movie and throw in some healthy popcorn too. There is nothing more fun than curling up with the kids and watching a movie, in my book!

Healthier Snacks and treats. It's easy to add some healthy food treats by including things like dried fruits or raisins in individual serving sizes or boxes. Single serve cereal cups or bars are fun to add. Does your child like granola bars? Those would be fun to add too. Healthy ready to eat snacks will also be great to add to lunch boxes for the weeks after the holiday and serve two purposes. Another fabulous option are individual fruit cups or Dole Parfaits! The new Dole Parfaits are what I like to call meeting in the middle when it comes to snack time with my own son. It's a nice variation from eating just fruit, yet still has healthy qualities and a delicious taste that kid's will enjoy.

Dole Parfaits come in three delicious fruit flavors to choose from:

  • Pineapple and Crème
  • Apples and Crème
  • Peaches and Crème

DOLE Apples & Creme

I was happy to learn about the DOLE Parfaits because they are made with real fruit and are a good source of Vitamin C too. In addition to those great qualities, they are also low in fat and also only have 130 calories per parfait.  I also learned that they are cholesterol free and low in sodium as an added bonus. Each flavor has its own yummy taste and I have to say that all 3 were quite delicious. The fruit tastes so yummy and the "Crème" is a perfect addition. They taste like a healthier dessert option. I liked that they were overly sweet either, I would have assumed that the Crème would be ultra sweet but it really was a perfect balance that was just right to satiate my sweet tooth.

My favorite flavor? The Apples and Crème, it really took me by surprise. Something about just tastes like a decadent dessert. I can see myself sprinkling some crushed graham cracker on it, I bet it would taste a lot like apple pie.  My son loved them all too, his favorite was the Peaches and Crème. Can I say how awesome that is? Now I don't have to worry about him eating mine! It's a sure win!

If you want to recreate the gift idea above, I simply taped stacks of 3 Dole Parfaits to each other and put them in a tall clear thin gift bag. Then, I simply taped the bag topper on. Voila, you now have a super cute healthier Easter gift!

Great ideas. My grandsons still have candy left from Halloween so it would be better if we would put things like this in their Easter baskets so it will actually get eaten. They seem to be kids that would rather eat this kind of stuff rather than a bunch of candy, which is fine with me.
