Tips and Tricks for Assembling Turkey Charcuterie Board

Creating a turkey charcuterie board can be a fun and visually appealing way to entertain your guests. Follow these easy tips and tricks to make sure your board stands out and pleases everyone.

Choosing the Right Board

Before you start assembling, the first step is picking the correct board. Make sure the board is large enough to accommodate all your ingredients and guests. You don’t want your board to look overcrowded.

  • Use a wooden cutting board like this 12"x17" Wooden Board or a marble slab. Both add an elegant touch.
  • If you’re hosting a large party, consider using multiple smaller boards instead of one big one.

Planning Your Layout

Next, plan your layout. Sketching out a simple design can help you visualize where everything will go.

  • Draw circles and squares to represent different items.
  • Think about balancing colors and textures. Place items with contrasting colors next to each other for visual interest.
  • Keep in mind where guests will stand or sit so everything is easily reachable.

Layering Ingredients

Starting with the right base can make your board look professional. Here’s a simple layering technique to follow:

  1. Crackers First: Lay down your round and square crackers in an even layer.
  2. Meats Next: Fan out the different salami varieties over the crackers.
  3. Cheese Last: Place the sliced cheeses on top of the meats, followed by the cubed cheeses around the board.

Cutting Cheese

Cutting your cheese correctly is crucial to making your board look neat. Here are some tips:

  • Temperature Matters: Let the cheese sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes before cutting. This makes it easier to cut without crumbling.
  • Sharp Knife: Always use a sharp knife to get clean cuts. A dull knife can ruin the shape and make your cheese look messy.
  • For cubes, aim for uniform sizes of about ½-inch. This makes for better presentation.

Freshness Tips

To keep everything looking fresh and appetizing, follow these tips for adding produce:

  • Add fresh fruits and vegetables right before serving. This ensures they don’t wilt or dry out.
  • Grapes and apple slices make perfect companions. Add them just before you set the board out for guests.
  • Place a small bowl of water next to the board to dip apple slices in, preventing them from browning.

Variations and Substitutions

Meat Alternatives

Adding variety to your charcuterie board by using different meats can make it more interesting. Here are some great options:

  • Salami: Slices of rich, flavorful salami can add a zesty taste. You can choose from different types like Genoa or Soppressata.
  • Prosciutto: Thinly sliced prosciutto offers a delicate, salty flavor that pairs well with cheeses and fruits.
  • Jerky: For a more rugged option, include beef or turkey jerky. It adds a unique texture and flavor that can spice up your board.

Cheese Alternatives

Why limit yourself to just one or two types of cheese? Diversify your board with more options:

  • Brie: Soft and creamy, brie cheese has a mild, buttery flavor that goes well with both sweet and savory items.
  • Cheddar: Choose aged cheddar for a sharper, more robust taste. It pairs wonderfully with apples and nuts.
  • Goat Cheese: Known for its tangy and creamy texture, goat cheese can be spread on crackers or paired with grapes for a delightful bite.

Creative Additions

Make your board stand out with some fun and unique additions. Here are some ideas to inspire you:

  • Flavored Nuts: Sweeten things up with honey-roasted almonds or add a bit of spice with chili-lime cashews.
  • Fresh Fruits: Incorporate fresh fruits like figs, strawberries, or pomegranate seeds for a splash of color and a burst of refreshing sweetness.
  • Honey or Jam: A small dish of honey or a selection of jams can add a delightful sweetness that pairs well with both cheeses and meats.

Total Time: 10 minutes

A Turkey Charcuterie Board is the show stopper you want to make for this Thanksgiving. Perfect for festive occasions, it’s both a feast for the eyes and the taste buds. Guests will be drawn to its playful design and variety of flavors.

Instructions

  1. Start by placing a halved apple or pear down towards the bottom center of your board
to make the turkey’s body. Leave a little space underneath to place the pecan halves for the feet. You can
place down the cracker layer and just fan it out into a rainbow over the turkey
    if you like.
  2. Fan out the salami layers and have it set halfway over of the cracker layer. Use
    different salami
    varieties per layer.
  3. Add the cheese halfway on top of the sliced salami. Use cubed cheeses for one layer
and then the sliced cheeses for the alternate layer.
  4. Add prosciutto wrapped mozzarella pieces towards the top of the board.
  5. Surround the apple/pear turkey body with whole almonds to serve as the “feathers”.
  6. Fill in all the gaps on the sides of the prosciutto with crackers. Layer with more
cheese slices on top. Use an alternating flavor.
  7. Add some olives on top, going across the board. Fill in any remaining gaps on the
    snack board with olives, too.
  8. Add candy eyes on top of the apple/pear body. You can use little smears of cream
cheese or melt a little white chocolate and dab just a bit to help “glue” them in
    place.
  9. Add small cheese triangle for nose slightly under the eyes. Use same method to
    adhere if desired.
  10. As a final step, go in and adjust the board by adding more crackers, salami, cheese, olives, or nuts where there is space to fill out. Enjoy!
