Ultimate Green Apple Pie

Tis' the season to indulge in tasty treats and delicious homemade goodies fresh from the oven. Now, I have a confession to make. This is totally weird, but I have literally never baked my own pie until recently.  The idea of getting a pie to look and taste good normally just freaked me out. That's why I always opt keep it simple. I struck the jackpot with this amazing Ultimate Green Apple Pie recipe with all the shortcuts.

It's what I can handle, especially around the busiest time of year. That's why I'm totally excited that I took the plunge with my first Apple pie with an easy recipe!  It's holy bananas good (or should I say apples)! Yup!

The time for indulgence has officially arrived if I do say so myself.

EASY GOLDEN DELICIOUS APPLE PIE 

As soon as I read "refrigerated pie crusts", I knew I could handle this one. Homemade, with a shortcut. Oh yeah baby!  Before I added my "seasoned" apples to the pie, I gave them a taste. At that very moment, I knew we were in for a special treat. Lucky me, I still have leftovers which I'll promptly be indulging in again tonight. Mmm.

Ready to indulge? I'm excited to share how simple this apple pie recipe is to make.

Here are the ingredients we'll be using to make it.

  • Refrigerated Pie Crusts
  • Sugar
  • All-Purpose Flour
  • Cinnamon
  • Salt
  • Granny Smith Apples
  • Lemon Juice
  • Egg

As soon as I read "refrigerated pie crusts" from this original recipe, I knew I could handle this one.

Before I added my "seasoned" apples to the pie, I gave them a taste. At that very moment, I knew we were in for a special treat.

Ready to indulge?

Start out by lining a 9-inch pie plate with one of the pie crusts. Let the edges overhang and then chill until you're ready to fill the pie.

In a large bowl, combine the sugar, flour, cinnamon and salt.

Then add the sliced apples and the lemon juice and toss them to coat.

Add the apples to the prepared pie crust while mounding in the center.    apples mounded inside pie dish

Then, carefully place the second crust over the apples and press it gently to adhere to  the lower crust. Fold overhanging crust over and flute the edges.

Finally, cut a small hole in the center to vent.

Chill the entire pie for 15 minutes and preheat your oven to 425 degrees.

Remove the pie from the fridge and brush the pie with egg wash.  Then, sprinkle the top of the pie with the remaining 1 tablespoon sugar.

Place the pie on a baking sheet in the lower third of the oven and bake for 15 minutes.

Then, don't miss this important step. Reduce the oven temperature to 350 degrees. Bake for an additional hour to an hour and 15 minutes, until apples are tender, filling is bubbling and crust is golden.

Cool on wire rack before serving. Then, do it up big!!

Ultimate Apple Pie Recipe

Prep Time: 30 minutes
Cook Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
Total Time: 2 hours

Delicious homemade green apple pie recipe that is very easy to make.

Ingredients

  • 2 refrigerated pie crusts
  • ½ cup PLUS 1 Tbsp. sugar, divided
  • ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 3 ½ lbs. Granny Smith Apples {or Golden Delicious}, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
  • 1 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten with 2 tsp. Water

Instructions

    1. Line 9-inch pie plate with one pie crust. Leave edges overhanging; chill until ready to use.
    2. Combine ½ cup sugar, flour, cinnamon and salt in a large bowl. Add apples and lemon juice and toss to coat.
    3. Arrange apples in prepared pie crust, mounding in center. Place second crust over apples and press gently to adhere to lower crust. Fold overhanging crust over; flute edge and cut a small hole in center to vent.
    4. Chill 15 minutes. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
    5. Brush pie with egg wash.
    6. Sprinkle with remaining 1 tablespoon sugar.
    7. Place on baking sheet in the lower third of the oven. Bake 15 minutes.
    8. Reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees. Bake additional 1 hour to hour 15 minutes, until apples are tender, filling is bubbling and crust is golden.
    9. Cool on wire rack before serving.
I wanted to kick it up a notch, so I added whipped cream, vanilla ice cream as well as caramel sauce on top.  Wow, for real!
