This 4 Ingredient Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookie Will Be Your Favorite
My husband is a serious chocolate chip cookie addict and is very particular about them too.
This super easy recipe has made midnight cookie making sessions less nightmarish when the hubs is panicking because he's run out of his weekly cookie stash.
Does this happen at your house? This recipe features only 4 ingredients that I usually have on hand already so its a total winner.
This is a tried and true recipe that I've been making for quite some time now, you can even swap out some chocolate chips for nuts or do half and half.
Matter of fact, my husband's favorite combo is chocolate chips, white chips and walnuts in these. I've found that you can reasonably swap around 1 cup instead of chocolate chips such as chopped nuts, etc.
The end result is a seriously freakin delish cookie, its shocking really. I'll personally continue avoiding baking with a million ingredients whenever humanly possible... its admittedly not my strong suit in any way shape or form.
You'll definitely want to keep an eye on these cookies while they are baking up and I definitely strongly recommend using parchment paper when baking, the bottom tends to crisp up very quickly. Since I started using the paper, the cookies have really improved greatly.
Once you nail your baking time, these cookies just might be the most amazing soft and scrumptious cookies ever.
I'm updating to add that there are two measurements that I've been liking for these.
¼ cup batter for each cookie and press them down and they come out extra large.
OR
2 Tablespoons for each cookie, roll into balls and bake that way, which come out fat and chunky.
If you have a chocolate craving, these are calling out to you!
Can you hear them?
Craving something sweet and decadent but strapped for time? This 4 Ingredient Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe is just for you. I bet you already have most of the ingredients on hand right now... so go for it! You can have these mixed and baked in under 20 minutes.. chop chop.. and enjoy!

Can you substitute applesauce for the eggs??????
Yes, 3 TABLESPOONS of Mayo covers 1 egg 🥚
Substituted with almond butter, coconut sugar and sugar free chocolate chips for a sugar free version and they came out amazing! I also put some dried coconut flakes on a few to test it out and they were delicious 😋 Cooked for about 13 minutes. Next time will add nuts as well. Thanks for the recipe!!
These were awful. Even after baking for the maximum amount of time (13 minutes) they tasted like raw cookie dough.
what can i use to replace peanut butter
@kyra, sorry, but peanut butter is the only thing I’ve had the best success with. Everything else is trial and error. Hope that helps.
@Dawn, Half a cup of vanilla Greek yogurt and half a cup of cream cheese. Add a tsp of vanilla for extra flavor.
These did not come out for me, was very oily. Used a no name brand creamy peanut butter. Should have I used jiffy? Would try these again.
@JoAnn jardine, Hi JoAnne, so sorry that happened. I certainly suppose if the peanut butter is extra oily that could happen. As long as you didn't swap any of the other ingredients, you should have good luck with Jiffy. Let me know how it works out!
Just made these today and they are amazing! I have made a similar almond butter blondie bar but your cookies are even better and made with even less ingredients!
There really should be separate baking times, as a 1/4 cup vs. 2 Tbsp will not bake the same 11-13 minutes.
@Pam, I hear you..however, I have made these in many ways in two different homes and the baking time has always been in that range. If you have had a different experience, please let me know. Thanks!
These were surprisingly good. I'm usually a little skeptical about short ingredient list recipes, but this one is very good. ...it might have something to do with the amount of chocolate in the cookies. 😉
@Ginny, I'm SO glad you enjoyed them! I know.. I am the same way.. but these are a surprising FAV!
Thanks for the recipe, these were really good - almost used up some peanut butter that needed to be used up. We agreed to use less Chocolate Chips the next time. I have a recipe very similar to this one but doesn't add the chips and boy those remind me of Grandma's peanut butter cookies.
Can you use all natural peanut butter, or must you use a Peter Pan, Jif type of peanut butter? i whip my natural peanut butter and it is quite spreadable, even from the fridge, but it does not have the hydrogenated shortening in Jif-types.
@BJ Baker, I wouldn't use an all natural peanut butter for this personally, so I can't recommend it. But it sounds like you have a good system with yours. Sounds yummy!
I just made these and they are so good! I halved the recipe to try it out. I cooked them about one additional minute more. I taste the peanut butter, but not nearly as much as I expected. My cookies looked pretty much just like yours. Thank you for this great recipe.
Thank you so much for letting us know and sharing your experience! SO glad they came out great! 😉
Although you may not taste the peanut butter, these should be labeled as peanut butter chocolate chip. Many people need to know this due to allergies.
@diane, I think the ingredient listed as peanut butter should do the trick.
I decided to make these this morning because the recipe looked so easy.
Did I do something wrong. I used the four ingredients and exact measurements. They never solidified. My peanut butter was also store bought (not oily at all).
Should I have added this to a flour based cookie dough? Do you add any additional stuff?
They were delicious. Just kind of soft for cookies. Adaptation to the recipe... Eat them with a spoon. 🙂
I love your creative thinking!
Hmm, that sounds really odd. They might need to be cooled longer than a normal cookie, but they should absolutely solidify.
I just made this recipe and I added 2 cups of oats and 1 cup of walnuts. Delicious
@Sharon, note to self for the next time I make these! Great idea.
@Sharon, Oh that sounds SO good! I will try that!
My Grandsons and I just made these cookies...They were so easy... so far they look good They taste good too!! Just don't make enough!!! and I think I wilt put so many choice chips in them!!
I literally just made these for the first time, will sure not be the last time. They are awesome when warm and I'm sure they'll be good when they cool off....Thanks !!
Just made these, no flour, they are great!!!!
I am so glad you enjoyed them Karen! Thanks for checking in to let us know how they worked out for you too 😉
We made these last night using all natural, sugar free, salt free organic peanut butter. We just added a bit of salt to the mix to compensate. These cookies are amazing. So easy and delicious. Highly recommended
Ooh I am so glad that worked out nicely for you and that you enjoyed them. We are hooked on these too! Thanks for taking the time to stop by and let us know how that variation worked for you. 😉
Can you sub almond butter for the peanut butter?
Hi Heather, I haven't tried it before so I can't say for sure. Maybe try a very small batch using some egg, sugar and almond butter so that you don't waste a whole batch just in case. If it worked, it would probably taste wonderful! Keep me posted if you try!
Made these with almond butter today and they were delicious!!
These cookies are just like the peanut butter cookies I make here is the recipe for them
Peanut Butter Cookies
1 egg
1 cup of sugar
1 cup of peanut butter
mix in that order and drop it by the teaspoon and bake it at 350' for 12-15 minutes.
I wonder if you can make these with almond flour instead of oats? Anybody know? I can't eat oats. I'm gluten-free and there is often cross-contamination.
Hiya Melanie, there are no oats in this recipe, so I don't think you'd need to add anything to supplement it.
Can't you realistically eliminate the sugar from this equation since there is both sugar in the peanut butter and chocolate chips? I am trying these out for the first time, but I cut the sugar portion in half to 1/2 cup. I dont like things very sweet, and also dont want needless sugar and calories if theres two other sweet ingredients. please let me know if this makes a difference.
You could give it a try, but I haven't done that .. so I can't be sure. If you try it, please do share your results!
Dawn: Just made the cookies and the taste is great. I do have 2 questions though. 1. Do you flatten the cookies before baking? Mine did not spread very well, so halfway through I flattened them. I know the temp was correct because I had two thermometers in the oven. 2. I also had a problem with oily residue in the bowl and on the batter - you indicated that you use store bought brand peanut butter - is this less oily?
My cookies didn't look as nice as yours, either, but the taste made up for presentation. Thanks for sharing.
I made these cookies twice as I thought I had made a mistake the first time. The first ones did not come out as cookies, more like candy and really soft chocolate chips. The taste was really good though and I had to try them a second time. They still did not come out as cookies, more like candy. I had some oily residue in the bowl, maybe the peanut butter was too oily. Will try them again and use a different peanut butter. The taste was still awesome, so will make them again even if they don't look like yours.
Oh wow, now that is very interesting! I think you are on to something, it might be the peanut butter being used. I've used store brand most of the times that I've made these with much success. I hope you can find the solution to get the cookie texture! Keep us posted!
Last night I had this plan to make chocolate chip cookies. Well around 9pm I realized I had run out of hours in the day and had promised a 3 year old not only some cookies, but to help make said cookies. Needless to say cookies were being made weither or not mommy wanted to anymore. I pinned this recipe months ago and just by chance found it while looking for some big long exhausting recipe. I was very sceptical but couldn't resist the 5 mins it took. I have to say these are amazing! I kept thinking they are going to be way to peanut buttery and grainy... But I can barely taste the peanut butter and there is no graininess what so ever! I made one change and added vanilla, and let me tell you if they make it to the second day they taste even better!!
Man, I wish my son didn't have a peanut allergy. I bet these are delicious!
Someone above said they used almond butter and it worked for them. Does he have a 'nut' allergy or just peanuts?
These cookies sound delicious 🙂
Thanks for the awesome giveaway!
I don't have any chocolate chips. If I wanted to use Nutella for a more chocolatey recipe, would I replace the chocolate chips? Or replace some of the peanut butter? I want a texture as close to the original as possible...thanks!
Hi Molly, I haven't tried that yet.. but I've been thinking about it. It seems that you could add Nutella in place of the peanut butter to get a similar consistency.. however since I haven't tried it, I can't say how it will turn out for sure. If you'd rather play it safe, maybe just try adding a little Nutella in place of the chocolate chips. I've made these without any chocolate chips at all and the consistency stays pretty similar. Hope that helps!
I made these for the first time the other day and loved them, but by the end of the day, my bf said they were a little too chewy. So this time I added only about 2 tblsp of flour and they were much fluffier. I know the point of these was minimal ingredients, but he liked them better with the little bit of flour.
I loved them either way though, so cheap and easy! thanks so much for posting!
Oh cool, I am so glad you liked them! I bet adding flour made them really nice and fluffy! I agree, they can get more chewy after being stored... I try to keep them loosely covered with plastic wrap so they can breath a bit, that seems to help. When I sealed them in a Tupperware container they didn't hold up very well after a day or two!
Wow perfect!! have to make last minute cookies for my sons school and thought I would have to run to the store.
Now I don't have to! Thank you!
Made these for dessert tonight. Mine didn't look as pretty as yours but oh my were they delicious. We used white chocolate chips. Hit the spot. Thanks!
Ooh yum! I bet the white chocolate chips tasted awesome! 😉
Just made these!! AWESOME! I didn't have chocolate chips though, but I cut up marshmallows and baked those in...OMMMMG, seriously yummy!
What a fabulous idea Erika! I am SO glad you liked them! Thanks for letting me know 😉
These are in the oven.... I'll let you know how they turn out!!
Oh cool Mrs. B! Please do let me know how they turned out and if you like them!
Ok, I made these and they were really good! Hubs couldn't stop eating them!
Yay, I am SO glad you and the hubs enjoyed them as much as we do! 😉
Thanks south!! I made these the other night and we love them! I made half with choc chips and the other without because my son doesn't like choc chips(crazy I know!) lol but we Ded tasted the peanut butter! It tasters more like a peanut butter cookie with choc chips... But we still LOVE them and are soo easy! Thanks!!
Oh cool, I am so glad you tried them and that you liked them! That is so funny that we don't taste the peanut butter in the recipe much, you must have sharper taste buds than us 😉 Thanks for sharing! So glad you stopped by!
Thank you Dawn! These are fantastic! Easy, super fast and delicious! I baked them for 20 minutes, maybe my oven temp is off, but they were perfect! My son said there are better than the regular kind! Easily our new favorite.
Oh yay Bev! I am SO excited that you tried and loved them! Aren't they magical?? Did you taste the peanut butter? Its a strange thing.. but it just blends into a regular tasting chocolate chip cookie batter taste.
Thanks a bunch for stopping by! 😉
Ok I totally thought you may have issued a few ingredients lol I had to read it a few times I don't believe it..... I guess I'm making cookies today 😉
Oh wait a minute one question do you measure the peanuts butter with a dry measuring cup or a liquid measuring cup?
Hiya Betty... I used a dry measuring cup! I hope you like em! Let me know!
Yum!! can't wait to make them!!
Wow, I'm... amazed!! I love making chocolate chip cookies, but always use a ton of ingredients... I've never tried something like this! I love it!! Totally doing this next time--pinning it! Thanks!
Thanks a bunch! I hope you have a chance to try them! They blow my mind.... so easy and delish! Won't miss all those extra ingredients in my opinion 😉
wow! must try this
These sound yummy... and so easy to make!
Sounds good, I am surprised there is no flour..but gonna give it a try now...these are just tooo easy, Thx.
Let me know what you think!
Sounds Delicious!
that lokks so delicous
I am going to have to make these. I hate having to spend almost more time making the batter then actually cooking the cookies. My husband will love these. I know what I am doing today. 🙂
This is a geat recipe but I sometimes do prefer the texture of a cookie that is made with flour.
i love the cookies and then i would try to make them
Wow...I thought you'd forgotten one or two ingredients at first! They sound wonderful and the picture is drool-worthy! YUM!! (I pinned it, too, so I can make them SOON!)
Thanks! Just got a new camera, lol! Hope you enjoy them as much as we do! Let me know!
Wowee! I had to pin this! I had no idea you could make cookies with 4 ingredients! We are going to try this tomorrow for sure. Hope I have some chocolate chips...
Yup! It a true time saver .. only takes about 5 minutes to mix the ingredients up and get em in the oven! Hope you had some chocolate chips! Let me know if try them! 😉
Holy cow. I opened this up and saw the title and said NO WAY! But NOW, tomorrow I am SO going to make these. I love peanutbutter and sugar and eggs.... no flour or other levening agents? This should be interesting. I'm so up to trying these. Bless you!
Nope, no flour! They are really impressive! I hope you enjoy them too 😉
those choclate chips look yummy
Thanks for sharing! This is easy and looks delicious.
Wow, that's very easy to do. Thanks for sharing!
I love peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies so this recipe sounds perfect for me!
These look so scrumptious!!!! my mouth is watering, Thanks for sharing 😉
Those look so good I actually wrote down the recipe. I love cookies. Thanks!
Wow! They sound amazingly easy. Can you taste the peanut butter?
Hi Jill! Surprisingly the peanut butter flavor doesn't really stand out in the recipe! Bizarre, but true 😉
Wait, what??? Can you really make cookies without flour? I'm SO going to try this one!
Yup! Can you believe it? They taste amazing too!
Can you make these with brown sugar? do you know if they are better with the other sugar that you listed?
I just made Choc chip cookies, literally minutes ago. Should Of checked this out before I started. Lol
