DIY The Powerpuff Girls Balloons

DIY The Powerpuff Girls Balloons

This post is in partnership with Hulu about The Powerpuff Girls. All opinions are my own.

You guys! Guess what? Your favorite trio of superheroes that save the world all before bedtime is back in a big way! This cute show is ready to take flight on Hulu, it's the only place to find the full classic animated series The Powerpuff Girls. The series originally debuted back in 1998, I can hardly believe it. How cool is it that Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup are still bringing the fun all these years later? I love it! To celebrate, I'm sharing these DIY The Powerpuff Girls Balloons for your inspired viewing parties.

The Powerpuff Girls have a special place in my heart. Many years ago my friend got the shocking news that she was expecting TRIPLETS. {Insert jaw drop here}. I needed to make her baby shower one that would be remembered for years to come.  The Powerpuff Girls theme couldn't have been more perfect: 3 superheroes to represent 3 tiny miracles that were on the way.

I had an adorable cake made, awesome banners and all of the perfect touches. I only wish I had thought of these super cute balloons back then. Now that the show is making a full debut over on Hulu now, it's bringing back all those wonderful memories. Join me in celebrating sugar, spice, and everything nice!

Here's what you need to make Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup balloons:

  • Balloons (Nude/Sheer)
  • Construction Paper (White, Black, Orange, Red, Green, Blue).
  • Black Marker/Sharpie
  • Scissors
  • Tape

Note that with the decorations, these balloons won't float. You can use regular balloons without helium. They can be used to stick onto the wall or other decorations. They would also make a fun table centerpiece for party tables.

For each balloon, make eyes using four graduated circular shape sizes. They are all identical in color except the second to largest circle which will be the color of each character's eyes which will alternate between red, green and blue.

The big trick to getting all of the balloons to look perfectly uniform is to make sure all of the shapes you cut out are symmetrical. Fold construction paper in half to ensure that both sides are trimmed out to look the same. It's easiest to tape together each character completely before taping on to the balloons. I recommending adding the smile last to make sure you have everything placed perfectly first.

Bubbles has yellow colored hair. Make this using one piece of yellow construction paper. Take one small end of the sheet to cut out the main piece which is rounded on top and comes to an inverted point on the bottom. Use the remaining paper to cut out identical pigtails.

Blossom has orange hair and an adorably large red bow. To make her hair, use the smaller end of a sheet of orange construction paper. Trim a rounded off top and then fold the cut-out in half to snip out bangs. To make the bow, fold a sheet of red construction paper in half to trim. Think of bunny ears for this perfect shape.

Buttercup's hair process is very similar to the way we trimmed out Blossoms. Use a sheet of black construction paper for her hair. Take one small end of the sheet to cut out the main piece which is rounded on top and comes to one very drastic inverted point on the bottom. Use the remaining paper to cut out identical hair pieces for the sides which look like rounded off triangles.
