BAT TREATS FOR HALLOWEEN INGREDIENTS
You just need a few simple items to get these fun snacks made. Here is an easy list. You can also print the full tutorial below.
DING DONGS - These throwback snack cakes are absolutely perfect to transform into a themed treat like this one. You will need a 10 pack of Ding Dongs perfect versatile starting point.
LARGE CANDY EYES - There are so many cool things you can "bring to life" just by putting candy eyes on them. Adding the Jumbo Candy Eyes to these makes them extra silly and perfectly adorable.
CHOCOLATE FROSTING - we will need just a couple of dabs to secure the candy eyes into place. Alternately you can use any kind of frosting, but chocolate works great because it matches the flavor of the treat and the color blends in nicely.
BLACK ICING - I love to use Wilton Sparkle Gels because it's so easy to use but you can use any kind of black icing that you can decorate or write with. We just need a tiny bit to add on little bat ears to our snack.
THICK BLACK PAPER - A variety of material could be used based on what you might have on hand. Black paper or plastic plates as well as thicker construction paper or a black card stock would work great for this.
TOOTHPICKS - These help to secure the bat wings into the snack cake.
NON-TOXIC GLUE OR TAPE - We will need this to secure the toothpicks to the thick black paper.
BAT TREATS FOR HALLOWEEN TUTORIAL
Ready to put together these funny little bat snacks? It's such a super simple process and even kids can have some fun with this also.
First, cut small bag wings out of your thick black paper. You can use a pencil to trace them perfectly or you can just go ahead and cut them out. To make sure they were even, I cut out strips of the paper first and cut two at a time.
Then after that, cut a straight line on the inner corners of the ears so that the paper will lie flat onto the snack cakes.
Next, we need to adhere the paper to the toothpicks. I used a glue fun for this, but you can use any kind of non-toxic glue or glue dot and even a thick tape would work as well.
Once the wings are set up, just unwrap each of the Ding Dongs you plan on using and insert the toothpick wings on the right and left side of the flat cake.
Then, use a little dab of frosting to set the candy eyes into place. I like having them overlap and as a result, they look extra cute.
As a final touch, if you like, use a little black icing to draw on bat ears on the upper right and left of the candy eyes.
Voila, that is literally it. Let the icing set before serving.
Lastly, be sure to enjoy every bat, I mean bite.
