There's nothing quite like the perfect movie night at home. The only thing that makes it better is a fun theme. Enter this New England Movie Night Snack Guide to celebrate The Good House is available today on Blu-ray™ + Digital and DVD, Digital and On Demand. The movie takes place in an "idyllic New England town", so let's grab our themed snacks for a WICKED fun watch party! This post is sponsored by LIONSGATE.
As many of you know, I am from Rhode Island. Being that it's such a small state, it's easy to explore and spend time in other neighboring states. I've spent a lot of time in each New England state from Maine to Connecticut, so I'm pretty excited to put together this fun celebratory snack guide to pair up with The Good House movie DVD.
NEW ENGLAND SNACKS FOR MOVIE NIGHT
New Englanders have a wicked notable range of identifiable accents, but did you know that they also have a wicked fun variety of eats and treats that are totally notable, too? Let me guide you through some fun favorites to help you plan a New England themed movie night to watch The Good House.
SWEET MOVIE NIGHT TREATS
When it comes to sweet treats and candy, New England has you covered. I wanted to pay a little tribute to Boston by including Boston Cream Pie in cupcake form. Now, I know that sounds confusing because we end up calling lot of things pie when they are really cake. More proof? Whoopie Pies, which are my second top pick for New England movie sweets.
BOSTON CREAM PIE CUPCAKES
INGREDIENTS
1 Boxed Yellow Cake Mix, 15.25 oz
1 Cup Whole Milk
4 Eggs
2 Sticks of Butter, Melted
1 Can of Ready-to-use Custard, 14.1 oz
4 oz Baker's Semi-Sweet Chocolate Squares
2.5 Cups of Whipped Topping
INSTRUCTIONS:
Preheat oven to 350°, in a large bowl, combine cake mix, whole milk and eggs. Then, slowly mix in the melted butter until fully combined. Pour 3 tbsp of batter into each cupcake liner in your muffin tin. (Makes 24 Cupcakes) Bake for 12-17 minutes or until you insert a toothpick and it comes out clean.
Once cooled, use a small frosting tip to insert custard into the center of each cupcake. You can also use an apple corer to remove the upper center to insert custard or simply use a small spoon to make a scoop out of the center.
Finally, in a microwave safe bowl, combine Baker's chocolate and whipped cream together. In small time increments, microwave and stir until the mixture is fully melted. Spread over the top of each cupcake.
For an added garnish, you can add a little frosting or whipped cream and a cherry. Best served cool.
More sweet snacks for movie night?
- Whoopie Pies - a delicious treat with two thick chocolate cakes that sandwich a delightful marshmallow whipped cream filling.
- Candy galore. There are many candies that originated from New England. Try Boston Baked Beans, Charleston Chew (surprising, I know), Necco Wafers or Junior Mints. Other favorites to try are salt water taffy and maple sugar candies, both beloved by my late grandmother.
- Newtons (Fig Newtons)- while these didn't quite originate in New England, they were first mass produced in and named after Newton, Massachusetts.
SAVORY MOVIE NIGHT FOODS
Round out your movie night snacking with heartier fare.
My top pick is Rhode Island Strip Pizza. A unique twist on pizza found in Italian Bakeries that's served cold. That's right, cold pizza without cheese aside from a sprinkling of grated cheese. Sounds funny, but it's a well-loved treat for many Rhode Islanders.

Want more ideas? My top New England savory snacks for movie night are:
- Buttered Lobster Rolls - Big favorite in New England.
- Stuffies - Rhode Island style stuffed quahog clams.
- Loaded Hot Dogs, Fenway Franks or Saugy Franks.
MOVIE NIGHT DRINKS
Wash your eats and treats down with a New England inspired beverage. My top pick is a Coffee Cabinet. No, it's not furniture. It's basically a milkshake made with coffee milk and ice cream. Don't forget to line your glass with jimmies (otherwise known as sprinkles).
Coffee milk is a popular drink in Rhode Island and can be likened to the idea of chocolate milk. You can buy coffee syrup and add it to milk and other recipes. It's YUMMY.
COFFEE CABINET RECIPE

1 cup of Coffee Ice Cream
¼ Cup of Whole Milk
1 TBSP Coffee Syrup
INSTRUCTIONS
Add your ingredients and blend them together by hand or in a blender. Serve immediately and enjoy.
Looking for more fun sips that are New England themed? Here are my picks:
- Moxie Soda - I really do not like this, but it's a Maine favorite that my step-dad loves. It's going to be fun for you to try it if you can find it.
- Coffee Milk - as I mentioned before, it's special coffee syrup mixed with milk and oh-so-yummy.
There are so many sweets, treats and eats to explore from New England. I hope you enjoy these simple suggestions! You won't regret it!
