How to Make OREO Bats for Halloween
Halloween is right around the corner, and it's time to get creative with your spooky treats! If you're looking for a fun and easy snack that will wow your guests, Reese's OREO Bats are the perfect solution. Not only are they simple to make, but they're also a hit with kids and adults alike.
What Are Mini Reese's OREO Bats?
OREO bats are a spooky and sweet treat perfect for Halloween. These cute treats combine the chocolatey taste of OREO cookies with mini peanut butter cups and create a fun, bat-like shape, perfect for any Halloween party.
Ingredients Needed for Oreo Bat Cookies
- OREO cookies
- Miniature Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
- Semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Candy eye balls
How to Make Bats with OREOS
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
Take the cream filling out of all the OREO Cookies and separate the cookies.
Break the cookies in half to make bat wings. You can do this by hand or by using a sharp knife.
Put semi-sweet chocolate chips in a microwave-safe piping bag. Heat in 30-second intervals on low or defrost setting until melted, massaging the bag after each interval to make sure it heats evenly.
Let the piping bag cool for 3 minutes, then cut off a small piece of the tip.
Place the unwrapped Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups on the baking sheet. Pipe a bit of melted chocolate on top of each one to hold the wings in place.
Press two cookie halves onto the top of each Reese’s and hold for a few seconds to secure.
Pipe a thin line of chocolate to connect the wings and add two candy eyes on top. Repeat with all the chocolate and cookie pieces.
Let them cool completely before serving. You can speed this up by chilling the baking sheet in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes or until the chocolate sets.
Tips for Perfect OREO Bats
Don't Break the OREO Cookies: You want to make sure you don't break the cookies. I like the twist technique to separate the cookies. Use a steady, slow motion rather than a quick twist. You can also use a knife. Gently slide a knife between the cookie halves to separate them.
If the OREO does break, and you do not have enough, you can use the chocolate to 'glue" the pieces back together.
How to Store
- Store in an airtight container: This will prevent the cookies from getting stale and keep the bats looking their best.
- Keep cool, but not too cold: Store the bats in a cool, dry place. If you live in a warm climate, you might need to refrigerate them, but be aware that condensation can affect the look of the chocolate.
- Layer with parchment paper: If stacking the bats in a container, use parchment paper between layers to prevent sticking and smudging.
Variations to OREO Cookie Bats
- Using Different Candies: You don’t have to stick to the traditional candies.
- Candy Corn: Use candy corn for spooky fangs.
- Mini M&Ms: Replace the candy eyes with colorful mini M&Ms for a fun, vibrant look.
- Gummy Worms: Serve as eerie bat tongues peeking out from the OREO.
- Twizzlers: Cut into small strips for quirky and flexible bat legs.
- Smarties or Skittles: These can add color and creativity as eyes or decorative touches.
- Decorative Items: Use sprinkles, edible glitter, or colored icing to add extra flair to your OREO bats.
How to Serve OREO Bats
Party Platters
Creating an eye-catching party platter is a great way to serve OREO bats at your Halloween gatherings.
- Halloween-themed trays: Use trays decorated with spooky designs like pumpkins, ghosts, or spiderwebs. These trays add a festive touch and make your bats stand out.
- Arrange in rows: Line up your Oreo bats in neat rows. You can alternate the direction they face to add texture and interest.
- Add garnish: Sprinkle a few edible decorations like candy corn, gummy worms, or Halloween-themed sprinkles around the tray. This not only adds color but also enhances the spooky vibe.

Themed Serving Ideas
Adding a themed touch to your presentation can really set the mood. Here are some ideas to get your creative juices flowing:
- Spooky forest: Arrange your OREO bats on a large platter with plastic trees and mini pumpkins to create a spooky forest scene. Add a few toy spiders or cobwebs for extra effect.
- Graveyard scene: Use crushed chocolate cookies as “dirt” and place your OREO bats on top. Add candy tombstones or bones to complete the eerie graveyard look.
- Flying bats: Hang your OREO bats from strings to make them look like they are flying. Secure the strings to a wire stand or a decorated archway to surprise guests with this unique display.
