How to Make a Back to School Desert Board
Make the Pencil Cookies.
Make the Notebook Cookies: Cut the cookie dough into rectangles and bake the cookies according to the directions. Let the cookies cool. Using the white frosting draw around the outside of the cookie in a rectangle.
Then fill the center of the rectangle perimeter with white frosting, taking the frosting all the way to the edges. Allow to set for 10 minutes.
Take your blue frosting and pipe horizontal lines down each cookie (creating the blue lines that notebook paper have). Make sure to use a very small piping tip. Next, take your red frosting and a tiny tip. Pipe one vertical line down the left side of each cookie.
Apple Pretzels: Melt the red melting chocolate. Cut green M&M's in half. Dip each pretzel in the red melted chocolate and allow the excess chocolate to drip off. Then set the pretzels on parchment paper. Before the chocolate sets, place the green M&M half on the top of each pretzel to create the apple leaf.
Apple Cupcakes: Make the vanilla cupcakes according to the cake mix box Once the cupcakes are baked and cooled, color the frosting red. Transfer red frosting to a large piping bag with a star tip attached and pipe the top of the cupcake. Roll out the green fondant slab then either cut leaf shapes out with a paring knife or use a small leaf-shaped cutter. Add a leaf to the cupcake's top and a pretzel stick in the center as a stem.
How to Assemble the Back to School Charcuterie Board
Start by arranging your apple cupcakes on the board since they are the largest focus. Next, add in the notebook cookies. Then add your cheese cubed and M&M's bowls, followed by the orange cuties.
Carefully place your chocolate-covered apple pretzels below your notebook cookies. Add in your pencil wafer cookies then your chocolate chip cookies. Fill in your last empty space with the alphabet cookies.
