Apple Dump Cake
Fall is a state of mind, I've learned. Living in Florida has provided much proof. Even though it's sooo hot still, I'm craving all things apple and pumpkin. Funny how that works? I've been wanting to share more easy dessert ideas and thought it was about time to share a very simplified version of Apple Dump Cake. This yummy but simple recipe is an easy crowd pleaser and can be made with few ingredients and a quick tryst in the oven.
Serving while still warm is a must. Adding ice cream and a delicious dose of caramel drizzle is also a must.
Add whipped cream if you want even more over-the-top goodness. {Raises both hands rapidly}.
Something to note about this recipe is that the brands and variations will directly determine the flavor of this. I found the brands that I used to be absolutely perfect, where my mom felt that the cake mix was saltier than she'd like. A quick look at product description, nutritional info and ingredients should help make it easier to decide.
Another thing to note is that not all canned apple pie filling is the same. Some are heavily spiced and others are not at all. Check the ingredients list to see.
If you do love strong cinnamon flavors and your filling doesn't include any, you will want to add some. Try ½ teaspoon over the top of the apple layer for starters.
One final thing to take note of is that this kind of simple recipe is the very best on the first day. After that, it can easily get soggy and lose some of the mojo. If you find yourself with leftovers, you might want to do a light broil to reheat to reduce some of the moisture and get some crispness back.
3 INGREDIENT APPLE DUMP CAKE
With so many variations to choose from, this is one of my favorites that only requires three ingredients to make. You will need three extremely simple ingredients and if you've never made a dump cake you might not even believe this.
Here is what you need:
- Apple Pie Filling
- Dry Cake Mix
- Melted Butter
Yes, that is it! Of course, you can add on spices and a lot of people like to add nuts such as pecans to theirs as well.
Play around to find your favorite flavor combo. Until then, keep it simple with these three basic ingredients. It's kind of mind blowing how simple this is.
While the oven is preheating, spread two cans of your favorite apple pie filling onto the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish that's been coated with non-stick cooking spray. If you desire a strong spiced dessert and your filling doesn't have much, you can lightly sprinkle your choice of warm spices like cinnamon.
Just remember a little goes a long way. I would start with ½ teaspoon at most.
Once the filling is spread out, evenly distribute dry cake mix on top of the entire filling layer. Feel free to use a spoon to make sure this layer is even and flat.
Just one more step until bake time. Evenly pour melted butter over the entire cake layer. Try to cover all the dry spots, but don't worry if a little doesn't get covered.
Once that's covered, it's time to put into the oven. Can you believe it's really that simple? Once it's looking nice and golden, it's time to let it cool off a bit.
The filling gets super hot, so you'll want to give it apple time to cool before serving.
Then, pull out all the stops with yummy toppings.
Yummy. I can't wait to make this again.
