Calling all Bruce friends something new and exciting just blew in! I don't mean to get carried away, but Bruce's Big Storm is AVAILABLE NOW! To celebrate, I’m sharing super adorable DIY Bear Slippers inspired by Bruce that would be perfect to make on a rainy, dreary, stormy day in. Whether you make this book and easy DIY as a cozy way to stay in or a clever activity for a rainy day, the new book paired with these cute slippers is an instant win!
Bruce fans! Are you ready for the fifth book in the #1 New York Times best-selling, award-winning Mother Bruce picture book series? Author Ryan T. Higgins brings Bruce's grumpy character to life so seamlessly that existing and new fans alike will easily agree that this adorable book series is truly engaging for the kiddos. With subtle lessons to be learned through Bruce's adventures, these books are worth collecting. Truth be told, I feel like Bruce just gets me.
The latest addition to the series, Bruce's Big Storm is another fun filled adventure in Soggy Hollow as they prepare for a wild storm. Although Bruce doesn't quite agree with how all of his neighbors storm plans, you'll soon see how things work out when community comes together for the greater good. Super cute. Now let's make some slippers that are equally cute and inspired by Mr. grumpy pants himself.
DIY BEAR SLIPPERS INSPIRED BY BRUCE
These fuzzy and comfy no sew slippers are SO easy to make. Simply use store-bought fluffy blue slippers and a small handful of items and you'll be ready to keep your toes toasty and you'll be totally be ready to curl up for a fun read of this new book!
Here's what you need:
- Blue Fuzzy Slippers
- Felt Sheets in Various Colors (White, Black, Blue, Tan)
- Fast Drying Glue such as a Glue Gun (For use with Adults only)
- Sharp Scissors (For use with Adults only)
- Optional Helpful Tools: Hole Punch & Circle Punch (For use with Adults only)
Here are the very easy steps to create these inspired slippers:
Step One: Remove the bows from the slippers if needed.
Step Two: Cut two rectangles out of tan felt to represent the "snout". Make the corners rounded.
Step Three: Cut two long oval noses out of black felt and angle the bottom of each to come to a soft point.
Step Four: Cut two tiny little lines out of black felt to place underneath the black felt noses.
Step Five: Cut two tiny odd shaped swirls out of black felt to represent Bruce's funny little mouth. Use your creativity to make a fun shape.
Step Six: Cut four small ovals out of white felt to represent the eyes.
Step Seven: Cut four tiny circles out of black felt to represent the pupils. I used a hole punch to help define the shape and sharp scissors to finish them off, since felt is hard to punch.
Step Eight: Cut four equal circles out of blue felt to represent Bruce's ears. Trim the bottoms to be straight.
Step Nine: Position all of the pieces exactly where you want them on both slippers before gluing them into place. You only have one shot to do this right, so take a moment to finalize everything.
Step Ten: Carefully glue all of the pieces into place and let dry. Should only take a few minutes if using a glue gun.
Voila. How easy was that? You now have no sew slippers that you totally made! Yay! Even Bruce would have to crack a smile at how cute these are.
