Tiered Patriotic Dessert Tray

Tiered Patriotic Dessert Tray

I love easy ideas. Simple things that bring people together. When you can make something feel special with simple efforts, I think that's truly beautiful. It's all about moment-making to me. This Tiered Patriotic Dessert Tray does exactly this. Think two dessert grazing boards piled into one eye-grabbing spread. This post may contain affiliate links.

Best part is that all of the red, white and blue desserts used were found in-stores. Most grocers sell Patriotic goodies that you can seek out to make something like this a breeze. This dessert idea is perfect for any sized soiree to simply just your family and beyond. I personally LOVE having a summer cookout and setting something like this out for something festive and sweet.

PATRIOTIC SERVING TRAY

Here is some themed serving tray inspiration to get you started.

  • Patriotic Serving Tray - This 4th of July Star 2-Tier Server that I used can be found at Kirkland's here.
  • DIY Serving Trays -  You could easily make your own serving tray, too with dollar store finds. In the past, I made one from candle holders and large plates. A little paint and this was the result.
  • Serving Tray Hacks - Already have a plain serving tray or can only find a plain one in stores? Get creative and hack it to make it match your desired theme. I did this quite some time ago as a Halloween entertaining hack and loved the results.

Once you have your epic serving tray ready, it's time to start shopping around for some gorgeous themed goodies.

BEST PATRIOTIC TREATS

As busy as this fun dessert tray looks, it really only includes a handful of carefully selected goodies.

  • Patriotic Cookies - When it comes to red, white and blue sweets, cookies are an easy win. This treat tray features a selection of Lofthouse cookies which are found in many local grocers. If you can't find any good matching cookies locally, these dipped cookies are cute, here. I also found really cute mini star cookies locally that say USA. I absolutely love these. As an alternative, there are some really great cookie cutters that would be perfect for this like these, here.
  • Patriotic Cupcakes - One of my absolutely favorite additions to this board are these pretty Star Spangled Cupcakes, here. I also used the cutest little mini cupcakes that I found at my local grocer. If you cannot find any yourself, another quick hack would be to add Patriotic cupcake toppers like these. There are so many to choose from.
  • Patriotic Pretzels - another fun and tasty sweet snack to consider. You can do a quick DIY with regular store-bought yogurt or white chocolate pretzels like I did in this recent dessert tray. I also spotted these fun themed coated pretzels that would be perfect, here. Spotted another version over here.

PATRIOTIC CANDY IDEAS

To make this tiered dessert tray feel more full, I made sure to fill in the blanks, if you will... with candies. I usually refer to them as filler candies. I had some leftover from a recent candy board that I shared that worked perfectly.

As a base, I used an entire layer of matching gumballs. I found that it lifted the treats up so they were more visible.

Here are the other "filler" candies that I used:

  • Patriotic Twist Mints, here.
  • Patriotic Candy Necklaces, here. I also spotted candy bracelets, here
  • Foil Wrapped Chocolate Stars, here.

HOW TO SET UP A TWO TIERED DESSERT TRAY

After selecting your tray and picking out your dessert and candy selections, the only thing to do is make the magic happen. I have two simple tricks that will create the best outcome.

  • Abundance - The number one thing that makes a delish tray (or trays) of goodies pop is to build that feeling of abundance. Fill in every available space with treats and go in with smaller candies to fill in every inch and corner. Carefully filling all the spaces will really do wonders for the overall aesthetic.
  • Alternate - make your trays more visually interesting by spacing out the colors, types of treats and sizes of items. This will make your treat trays really stand out. Try not to place blue treats near blue treats and so on and so on.
