You can make it a variety of ways like this recipe with chocolate sauce to freak people out. But, my favorite way to easily make fake edible blood? I am also a fan of using Red Wilton Sparkle Gel, but it is best for making oozing blood vs. blood spatter. Here are some samples below:

Now let's get back to making these gruesomely sweet cupcakes. Here is what you will need:

  • 12 frosted white cupcakes (follow directions on the box mix or make your choice from scratch.)
  • Wilton Cookie Icing, Red
  • Firm Food Safe Brush
  • Parchment Paper or Newspaper to contain the Splatter

That's literally it. Now, it's all about the technique to make these sweets splattered and spattered. This is the fun part.

Dripping red icing on top of cupcake icing to make a bloody effect.

To get the very best blood spatter going on there are two methods to alternate with.

Method one: Dip your brush into the prepared cookie icing and use your finger to help flick the the icing over the cupcake frosting.

Method two: Dip your brush into the prepared cookie icing and swoop up a generous amount and let it drip and drizzle over the top of the cupcakes.

Using both of these tricks will get you the very best bloody, drippy, oozy looking cupcakes possible.

I really love how these turned out and it's really crazy how simple this method is. Allow the icing to set before serving, which won't take long and you are totally ready to creep it real. Have fun with it.

Know that the possibilities are endless. Use this same product and method to add a fun blood splatter to all of your favorite desserts this season from cakes to cookies.
